WomeninScience

If you were to type “famous inventors” in a Google search, the results would show a list of male inventors with a few females showcased. Similar results appear if you search for “famous scientists” or “famous biologists” or “famous mathematicians.” Does this mean that men are better than women at science, technology, engineering, and math? Absolutely not! It means that women have not always been given the same opportunities as their male counterparts to showcase their work or discoveries. The movie Hidden Figures is just one of the many examples from history that show how women’s achievements, inventions, and discoveries have been overshadowed or cast-aside because they were not done by men.

In Women in Science by Rachel Ignotofsky you will meet fifty notable women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These pioneers risked everything in the name of science. They had to fight through stereotypes, limited workspaces, and lack of funding to achieve their goals. When many doubted in their abilities, these trailblazing women believed in themselves. Many of them did not receive the recognition they deserved. Some even had their life’s work stolen. We all know the names of Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, and Issac Newton. We should also know the names of Marie Curie, Katherine Johnson, and Rosalind Franklin. So spend some time learning about these fifty remarkable women and their incredible achievements. You might even be inspired to follow in their footsteps.

Verdict:  Simple put, this book rocks! This is one book that you can judge by the cover. The pages are just as beautiful and fun to read as the cover leads you to believe. I was surprised by how little I actually knew about these women and their discoveries. Their bravery and confidence to make the impossible possible was so inspiring. This is a fun, educational, and inspiration book you will want to read again and again. 5 stars!
